Girl Scout Cookie Sale |
|
Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South sponsors an annual cookie sale. Girls take orders in January, and cookies are delivered in late February/early March.
The purpose of the cookie sale is two-fold:
-
To help girls develop life skills such as decision making, planning, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, money management, and many more.
-
To generate income for the Girl Scout troop, our council, and Girl Scouts of the USA.
The sale of cookies helps fund the troops treasury allowing the troop to carry out their troop activities, field trips, and service projects.

With the beginning of a new year, comes the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program. Our mission is to have a safe, successful and fun sale with a volume increase of seven percent.
As a troop leader or troop cookie sale manager, what is your assignment in the mission? Use the information and training materials provided to prepare and keep your girls motivated throughout the sale:
-
Stretch for a 7% volume increase by increasing the number of girls participating in the sale and increasing the number of cookie booth locations.
-
Encourage all girls to participate in the cookie sale in some way. While the cookie sale is voluntary at the troop as well as the individual girl level, try to help girls explore options that meet their constraints and concerns. Most girls take orders and continue to sell after the cookies are in hand. Some choose to sell only to family and close friends. Others opt to participate in booth sales only.
-
Guide the girls so they experience the many wonderful lessons that happen when they participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program.
All cookie sale manager agreements were due to the Girl Scout Service Center by December 13. Upon receipt, we activate your troop number in the computer to enable us to accept your troop cookie order. If you have not turned in your agreement, please do so.
Cookie booths are an excellent way for more girls to participate. Some girls cannot go door to door and take orders in their neighborhood due to safety concerns and/or no available adult to accompany them. Booths offer a safe environment with adult guidance. At cookie booths, girls can communicate with their customers, describe the eight varieties of cookies, relate what their troop plans to do with their proceeds, and practice math skills as they count money and make change. It is a fun activity and the girls earn as they learn.
Cookie Booth Guidelines were mailed December 30 to all troops that had cookie sale manager agreements on file.
Cookie booth sign-up in West Memphis, Millington, Covington, Tipton North, Tipton South, Collierville, Lauderdale, Fayette, and all service units in Mississippi is set up and assigned through the service unit cookie sale manager for the service unit. Contact him/her for booth information in these areas.
In Memphis, Bartlett, Germantown, and Cordova, cookie booths are coordinated through the Girl Scout Service Center with help from volunteers. The December mailing for troops in these areas also included detailed information, a list of available locations, sign-up procedures and forms. If your troop did not receive this mailing, please contact your service unit cookie sale manager or Kay McFarland at the Girl Scout Service Center. Booth assignments will be made January 11.

Girl Scout troops participating in booth sales are encouraged to become members of C.A.T. (Cookie Action Team) by attending the Mission Possible Academy. Girls will participate in mini assignments to prepare for their final mission: a safe, fun and successful booth sale experience. Upon completion of the Mission Possible Academy, newly inducted CAT members will be equipped with resources and knowledge (and a patch) to make their mission possible.
