  Volunteers Needed!

The Girl Scout Movement has always depended on active adult volunteers to provide the Girl Scout program to its membership. Parents, neighbors, relatives, friends, former Girl Scouts, and any other adults who wish to help today’s girls grow into competent, resourceful women, are encouraged to become Girl Scout volunteers. Adults may choose to work directly with the girls or support adult volunteers through various positions. No matter what your skills or interests may be, there is a place for you in Girl Scouting. Join us and make a difference in the lives of girls. We can’t do it without you and neither can the girls!

As an adult volunteer, you can choose:

  • The amount of time you want to spend

  • The people you enjoy working with the most, girls or adults

  • The skills you want to develop, enhance or share

  • The activities you enjoy

  • The interests you want to pursue

  • The challenges you want to meet

  • The goals you want to set

  • The cause you want to endorse

If you would like to explore possible ways to volunteer and find the best fit for you, please contact Sonja Emziah, at the Girl Scout Service Center.

Girl Scouts for a Healthy Mid-South

Be part of a team that develops a portable, active, health-related "station" to be used at community events and fairs. Join with others to create a re-usable means to promote the image of Girl Scouting and help others develop their awareness about healthy living. Contact René Taillon at the Girl Scout Service Center before January 31.

Brownie Girl Scout Leadership – Simplified

If you have some ideas about how we can provide more structure and assistance so it’s easier for new Brownie Girl Scout leaders to plan and provide a high quality Girl Scout experience, consider being part of this task group. Volunteers will work with Sonja and Deenean to develop content guidelines and reformat the Brownie Girl Scout Age-Level training guide. Materials will be piloted during the summer and fully incorporated into fall trainings. If you are interested, please contact Deenean Wilson-Henderson at the Girl Scout Service Center before January 31.

Community Based Adult Recruitment Kit

It’s time to pull together and package our "best practices" about how to identify and recruit strong adults for all the various Girl Scout roles. Let us know if you have a "best practice" to share or are interested in serving on a task group that prepares a comprehensive tool kit that will debut at the Spring Soirée for service teams. Contact Joycelyn Robinson at the Girl Scout Service Center before January 31.

Focused Recruitment

If you’ve been particularly successful recruiting volunteers and girls at your school or house of worship, please let us know. We want to be able to develop and share some specific tools for others to use. Contact Barbara Tucker regarding church-based recruitment; or Venus Chaney regarding school-based recruitment.

Hispanic Outreach

Are you bilingual? Would you like to utilize your Spanish to help Hispanic girls and their families become a part of our Girl Scout family? If so, there are many opportunities for you to help us communicate with the Hispanic families in our communities. For more information please contact Shante K. Avant at the Girl Scout Service Center.

Program Specialists

Volunteers are needed who can design and/or facilitate a Girl Scout program session or event, usually emphasizing a particular topic or skill. Opportunities are available on an episodic basis and usually occur after school and on weekends. Contact Sonja Emziah at the Girl Scout Service Center.

Camp Care Days

Spring is just around the corner and we need help to prepare our camps for spring and summer use. Junior and teen Girl Scouts can earn service hours by helping. Of course, adult help (men and women) is always appreciated. Many hands make the work lighter. Whether you are able to come for the whole day or part, your help will be appreciated in the effort of maintaining our camps. If you are interested in helping, call Mary McHugh at the Girl Scout Service Center with names/numbers of those attending. We need to have a count of how many will be coming so we can anticipate jobs as well as provide lunch for everyone.

GIRL SCOUT CAMP ANNEMEEKEE CARE DAY will be on Saturday, March 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We need help with trail maintenance and cleaning the lodge. Girl Scout Camp Annemeekee is located west of Covington in Tipton Co.

GIRL SCOUT KAMP KIWANI CARE DAY will be on Saturday, March 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The main work will be opening the units and getting buildings ready for spring and summer use. There are also other jobs of raking, doing minor repairs, and trail maintenance. Girl Scout Kamp Kiwani is in Middleton, TN (Hardeman Co) about 70 miles east of Memphis.
