"Girl Scouting has made me become the independent, resourceful, courageous, creative, respectful girl that I am today. It has prepared me with my independence and taught me about important issues and roles I should take on in my community. Girl Scouting has given me the necessary tools to go out and face the world knowing I am strong!"

Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards

New guidelines have been released by Girl Scouts of the USA for the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards. These take affect for those starting their process during the 2004-2005 membership year.

Guidelines can be found in three places:

  1. Online at www.studio2b.org

  2. In the STUDIO 2B Go For It inserts, available in the Council Shop

  3. In the 2004-2005 Girl Scout Silver and Gold Award packets available at the Girl Scout Service Center

PLEASE NOTE: Girl Scouts who have already earned the prerequisite awards and patches under the former guidelines may continue working on their awards under those guidelines. Your final projects should be completed by the 2005-2006 membership year.

For more information, contact Shante Avant at the Girl Scout Service Center.

Think Big Grant

Working on a Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award lets girls discover, lead and take action. A grant provided by First Tennessee Foundation, encourages girls to think big when it comes to their final project.

Girls can apply to have funding collected for their project matched by the Think Big grant. A maximum of $250 will be matched for a Girl Scout Silver Award project and $750 for a Girl Scout Gold Award project. All fund raising guidelines must be followed when collecting money for the project. Be sure to refer to Safety-Wise.

Mentors and project advisors are also available to help girls plan and carry out their projects. Having someone who is familiar with the project focus can be a valuable resource and supporter.

With the help of mentors and financial assistance, girls should feel encouraged to expand their ambitions and Think Big.

Contact Shante Avant at the Girl Scout Service Center for more information. Click here to download a pdf of the Think Big Grant Application.
